Special Touches That Made Our Wedding Unique
Every wedding has its own story. For us, it was the people, the meaning behind the details, and the love that filled every moment that made our day unforgettable. I’m incredibly thankful for the special touches that made our celebration feel deeply personal. While there were many moments I’ll cherish forever, three details stand out as the heart of our wedding day.
Bridesmaid Dresses Designed by My Sister
My sister has always had an incredible eye for design, and when it came time to plan the wedding, she used her talents to create something truly special. She sketched and designed each bridesmaid dress herself, tailoring the styles to complement every woman standing by my side.
Once the designs were finalized, she worked with a factory to bring her vision to life. Seeing my bridesmaids walk toward me in one-of-a-kind dresses, all designed by my sister, was one of the most meaningful moments of the entire day. Each gown reflected her creativity and her love, and it meant the world to know that part of her artistry was woven into our celebration.
Flowers from Charlie’s Grandma
I never had the chance to meet Charlie’s Grandma Louise, but I’ve learned so much about her through the wonderful family she raised. When I mentioned wanting to include peonies in my bouquet, Charlie’s dad shared that his mother used to grow rows of them on the family farm. That one conversation turned into one of my favorite parts of our wedding.
Here’s something I learned along the way: if you refrigerate peonies before they bloom, they’ll stay dormant until you take them out and place them in water. My mother-in-law took on the task of gathering the flowers from Grandma Louise’s garden. She made multiple trips to check on the blooms, harvested them at the perfect time, and delivered coolers full of flowers to my florist.
Those peonies were absolutely beautiful. Walking down the aisle with flowers from Grandma Louise’s garden felt like having her presence with us, honoring the generations of love that brought us together.
Saying “I Do” in My Home Church
I grew up in the front pew on the left side of my hometown church. Every Sunday morning was spent there with my family, and even as a little girl, I dreamed of one day walking down that same aisle to marry the person God made for me.
We got engaged in 2020, and as our wedding day approached, our church still had pandemic restrictions in place. We had to limit our ceremony to family only, but that made the experience even more intimate and meaningful.
When the doors opened and I began walking toward Charlie, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. The church that had shaped my faith and community was now the place where I began a new chapter. I whispered to my dad as we walked, asking him to go slower so I could take it all in—a moment I’ll never forget.
The Heart Behind Our Wedding
Our wedding day was filled with countless cherished memories, but these three details—the dresses made by my sister, the flowers from Grandma Louise’s farm, and saying “I Do” in my home church—will always stand out.
They represented love, family, and faith. Each one carried meaning beyond design or décor; they reminded us of where we came from and who stood beside us as we built a life together. Those personal touches turned our wedding into something far more than an event—it became a reflection of our story.
